Great Food with Matcha

Matcha is a superfood rich in nutrients and other minerals. Naturally, it's great to have with many different kinds of meals, though since our speciality is the matcha soft serve, we'll focus more on dessert in this article. Let's learn about some great "wagashi" (Japanese confections) to try.

Great Wagashis with Matcha

Monaka

This is a dish filled with adzuki bean jam wedged between two mochi wafers, though other ingredients can be used instead of beans.

Anko/Yokan

These are both made from bean pastes and typically into cube shapes. Both are great with matcha.

Dorayaki

A kind of small pancake with red bean paste sandwiched in between.

Mochi/Kuzumochi

Mochi is a popular rice cake dish in Japan. Kuzumochi is one of many great mochi variants.

Dango/Shiratama Dango

We use shiratamas as toppings in a lot of our menu items here at Matcha Cafe Maiko, so you know it has to be good.

Senbei

This is a kind of rice cracker of which there are many variants. Some are sweet tasting, which can be nice with matcha.

Other Great Things to Have With Matcha

Natually matcha goes great with many other things, not just wagashis as listed above. Some examples are cookies, scones, muffins, doughnuts, etc. Pick our your sweets of choice and give them a try the next time you have some matcha and most of all, just enjoy it.
